Rokhsareh Ghaemmaghami

Director/Producer

Two-times Sundance-winning documentary filmmaker Rokhsareh Ghaemmaghami studied filmmaking (BA) and animation (MA) in Tehran Art University. Her research on animated documentary resulted a book: Animated Documentary: A New Way to Express. Her documentary Sonita won the Grand Jury Prix and Audience Award from Sundance Film Festival 2016.

Rokhsareh’s main focus in her documentaries is people who live in the margin of society. She is interested in trying hybrid forms and pushing the boundaries of conventional documentary.

Outsider art, drama therapy and experimental animation are her other interests.

Rokhsareh has been a jury member in festivals such as HOT DOCS (Toronto, Canada) , IDFA (International Documentary Festival of Amsterdam), One World Human Rights Festival (Prague) and the Clermont Ferrand Short Film Festival (France).
