Story Summary / Synopsis

Mark Lane is a 45-year-old White American who lives near the Mexican border in San Diego with his Mexican wife and 3 children. His wife and children are brown and have been targets of racism and hostility. Mark had a restaurant and a comfortable life until 2015, when he and his 5-year-old son turned on the TV one day to witness white supremacists in the nearby city of Murrieta, CA blockade three busloads of refugee women and children from Central America on their way to a Border Patrol processing center. When Mark’s son asked him why people were mad at the people on the buses, he found himself having to explain that it was because of their color. In that moment he knew he had to do something to demonstrate to his son that there are constructive and effective ways to fight hate and racism.
